Man Man at Amoeba Music

Welcome to Under the Dog. This is a musical webzine with a focus on the more abrasive styles of music(read:metal/punk/hardcore), along with some interesting videos and links that generally fall in the WTF category. We post full bootleg concerts every Wednesday and have new mp3s on the weekdays. Click here to goto the main page.

RSS feed.

Thanks for visiting!

Thank god almighty for the technology to allows Amoeba Music to be not only a records store but an online portal as well. This time we are watching a interview where they only have one mic, so they choose to relay all their answers through their tour manager.

Then we have 41 minutes of pure bliss with live at Amoeba Music SF.

The Bay would be such a cool area to live in, just for Amoeba Music.

Jay-Z covers “Sunday, Bloody Sunday”

(Either JavaScript is not active or you are using an old version of Adobe Flash Player. Please install the newest Flash Player.)

After Saul Williams did this song,  Jay-Z does a version where he actually raps to the track which is infinitely cooler when properly executed in the Jay-Z fashion. I’m not really into mainstream hip-hop but Jay-Z is someone I’ll make and exception for.

Zeotrope Animation

Now this is all taken in real time, so in a way, it really isn’t at all. Elliot Smith on the soundtrack.

I’m not a democrat so I have been able to watch from afar as it gets uglier and uglier and it makes me wonder how people aren’t put off but the whole circus of this years democratic primary.

Anyways, this pretty much sums up the past 5 or so months.

How to Synchronize 5 Metronomes

I know you have been watching lots of metronome videso and are no doubt bored with all of the flashy editing and faux glamour of all that metronomes have to offer. Still, I feel you must watch this one as this is the metronome to end all metronome videos. EVER.

Slayer - Born To Be Wild

How did Slayer ever get involved in anything NASCAR? I was going to make this a weekend fun post but I figure it is musical.

Posting Frequency is down, but not out.

Life is pretty hectic so the posts will slow down a bit. I’ll try to get some work done but right now I am learning a brand new OS so it’s making it substantially more difficult to write a post.

By this time next week I expect everything to be back to normal around here.

I think the whole bush hating thing is kind of played out. But I still found this worth a watch.

WildStyle

Last week I posted Beat Street and now I bring you Wildstyle, a film with the focus on the graffiti element of .

Once again, I urge you to be feeling particularly nostalgic before viewing this film.

Just a quick heads up…

nin.com has a free Nine Inch Nails album that is brand new. That is all.

p.s. I have a horrible toothache, posting frequency will hurt because of said toothache.

Beat Street

Ahhh the movie. Early attempts were major suck. But we did gain “electric boogaloo” jokes for any sequel to any film ending in the number two.

So if you are feeling bored and nostalgic and are 25 or older, then watch this film.

I Set My Friends On Fire

(Either JavaScript is not active or you are using an old version of Adobe Flash Player. Please install the newest Flash Player.)

I don’t know what to think of this band who just signed to epitaph yet, but the deciblog sure does calling it

the first case of a MySpace sensation inking a deal based entirely on a reinterpretation of another MySpace sensation’s work (a batshit crazy “screamo” cover of Soulja Boy’s “Crank Dat”).

While I think it is moderately funny and I do like the DIYness of the band, but an entire album would get a little bit tiresome and be a total ripoff of the D. Now I don’t think Tenacious D is all that great and I kind of treat it as I do comedy albums, good for 1 listen, 2 if it’s really good.

They also remind me of another band. Reggie and the Full Effect.

May Mixtape

Under the Dog needs a monthly mixtape.  As this webzine trys to find it’s identity it’s become apparent that it needs some established content. I considered a podcast, an e-zine pdf kind of thing and remixing or mash ups.

Podcasting sounded really fun, and that may even come in the future, but I just can’t even seem to find the time to make my own music or write this zine much less write and record an entire podcast. An e-zine seemed tempting but I just don’t have the design skills. That could also come in the future but right now a mixtape seemed like the best option.

Ween - I’ll Be Your Johnny on the Spot

I had “piss up a rope” stuck in my head for 4 days so I felt I had to put some Ween on he May Mixtape.

Drive By Truckers - The Man I shot

The new Drive by Truckers album is really good. It’s actually my first foray into the alt country genre besides Rocky Votolato.

El-P - Up all Night

Best album last year. Most unique drumbeat ever.

Teenage Fanclub and De La Soul - Fallin’

From the Judgement Night Sountrack…

Ruins - Warrido

Words cannot describe this band. Definitely the most out there of math rock groups, while still remaining cohesive.

Infectious Grooves - Don’t Stop, Spread the Jam!

One of two sentimental tracks on this months mixtape. Infectious Grooves is a really silly band but for some reason I keep listening to them. I have had copies of their records since I was 13 or 14. I love the bass playing.

Lyrics Born - I like it I love it

I like cept he’s kind of fluffy. But this is a strong track. I dedicate it my girlfriend.

Ponytail - Jammin on a Major Scale

I watched these guys open for Battles and I was instantly into them. Nice people too.

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly - Waiting For The Monster To Drown

I’ll admit it, if these guys had an animal name I would have never checked them out. I did check them out because of their name. I like the record.

The Dismemberment Plan - You are Invited

When this record came out it was pretty unique. Unafraid to be different while sticking with what worked. These guys broke down so many walls.

Jeremey Enigk - City Tonight

I love this song. It’s probably my favorite song by Mr. Enigk.

MC Paul Barman - Excuse You

Most underated MC ever. This guy is not a gimmick. He’s a freakin rhyme dictionary. Prince Paul on production helps alot.

Mission of Burma - That’s When I Reach For My Revolver

I won’t front, for as old as this band is, I hadn’t ever heard of them till right before they reformed and signed to Matador. It’s good to see band turn the bass up.

Reel Big Fish - Skatanic

Sentimental song number 2.

Seaweed - Start With

I don’t think this album got very much exposure outside the northwest. This stuff is great. I tend to scoff at alot of early-mid ninties rock from the pacific northwest as it was all pretty derivative. That said the northwest has had a burgeoning subculture for years.

Shel Silverstein - Everybodies Makin It Big But Me

It’s hard to pick just one song.

Weekend Fun: Christians

I don’t consider myself  to be a smug atheist, I don’t have anything against people who choose to practice religions of any kind.

With that said this video made me actually laugh out loud during the last minute and a half.

This one is kinda strange. I don’t think this lady wanted to be filmed.

Alliance p2p

Get Alliance

Alliance works like limewire, or like a network drive. The one advantage is that you are only sharing with the people you invite. This makes the likelihood of getting fake files & virus’ decrease somewhat.

I don’t know if communities even exist for networks running Alliance but I bet one is out there. I haven’t tried it yet but if anyone wants to try a network out let me know.

Everybody Solo!

I got distracted with these videos and I felt I should share.

This guy invented a double guitar. He basically shows off by playing 2 guitars at the same time

Flo Mounier

This guy drums for Cryptopsy. He’s pretty darn good.
