Ok, this mashup stuff has got to stop. I understand that Girl Talk is a musical genius though I think he should have way more metal in the mix and use less of that “booty” hip-hop but what do I know?
So someone on twitter posted this video…
I know, disgusting isn’t it. It’s some kind of a sick joke. It’s not like I hold Nirvana sacred and I find it blasphemous to mix it with some “rick roll” guy or anything. It’s just not that difficult and really lazy. There are programs that can auto beatmatch, There are programs to strip vocals.
If you are going to sample, make it as unrecognizable as possible. Don’t just match tempos and pitch. Get a little more creative because that video right there is an unfinished track. It still needs a little work.
Here is an example of a better implemented mashup, Bitshifter – The World Has Turned and Left Me Here. Ok, so none of the actual recorded song is sampled from anything, but at 2 minutes he starts singing a Pixies song. That is what makes the song a little more human than the mashup.
That said, enough with the genre mixing. Seriously.
