Six Degrees Of Botch
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
Botch wasn’t the first mathrock band. But few bands have spawned so many other bands as Botch has. Hailing from Seattle, this foursome was another group that I wish could have made one more record. Sadly, they broke up right about the time I first heard them.

I almost want to ban the ad, but Google never serves up album ads so I’ll take that over an ad for a TV show. But I would rather sell some adspace to a few bands.
I don’t really want to get into why I don’t like Anti-Flag because I don’t want to sound like an a-hole, so instead…I bring you…
Songs/Bands that are infinitely superior to Anti-Flag
I tried to keep it “Punk Rock” but I got into a few subgenres.

Indie Labels Not Liking Filesharing
Many downloaders justify getting music and movies by telling themselves that it’s ok because they aren’t hurting anyone but large corporations. But what about when you download something more underground? Well those same people may say that they would have never heard of a band or even checked em out had they not been able to download first equating downloading to the same thing as when blockbuster used to open CD’s and let you listen to them at a listening station.
But Deep Elm, 31g, Ninja Tune, Lookout! and Revelation all say that the practice is hurting their bottom line.
Some people think the industry is changing, some people think the industry needs to adapt to the 21st century. I think people buy what they can and prices should come down. You should attend concerts and buy merchandise. If you download something and listen to it more than a few times, maybe you should buy it.
What do you think, comments below.

This robot stuff is getting scary now. This robot can be kicked and it doesn’t fall, but good thing it runs on gas.

Deathwish Records Signs Narrows
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
Who is this Narrows you may be asking? Well, for starters, it features Dave Verellen, the singer of a lil old band called Botch. Not to mention all of these guys: Rob Moran (Unbroken, Some Girls, Over My Dead Body), Ryan Fredereksen (These Arms Are Snakes), Jodie Cox (Tropics, Bullet Union), and Sam Stothers (Makeout Boys, Quarantine).
Only 1 track is available currently and it’s on the Deathwish site and to make it worse, it just cuts off near the end so they can make sure you buy it. But hey, that’s their bag.

Bootleg #3
I think that is in Finland. The sound quality on this is not the best, definitely not a soundboard but should be good for the completeist.

Honestly Guys (and Girls) [Doomsday Review]
Podcast: Play in new window | Download

This week doesn’t seem to have (m)any releases I really feel like writing about. I didn’t really check the indie stuff out but will say that the entire back catalog of Mission of Burma is being re-released soon.
But I did watch Doomsday. This movie was an ambitious undertaking from the beginning, so I can see how it had the chance to fall apart. Doomsday was a trainwreck. Throughout the duration of the film, I was certain this was a giant homage to dystopian films, with low budgets. There was some cool shots and all. But the acting was mediocre at best.
I can’t be a total hater though, I guess the budget was 27 million and Neil Marshall did get to do pretty much whatever he wanted, made a lil money to make something better and will have something truly scary next time.
The music selection was interesting to say the least with Siouxsie and The Banshees, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Fine Young Cannibals. Hardly the music I would expect in such a film. Dare I say the music was the best part and that’s not really the best part.
I’m actually surprised that there was not any heavy metal.
All in all I give the film a 4 out of ten and urge you to wait till it is on DVD.
Here’s the tracks in case they get stuck in your head after watching it.

I won’t front, I was 13 years old when this show played, but I was already familiar with this band I would have loved to have gone to this show. Pretty decent sound quality.
