Welcome to Under the Dog. This is a musical webzine with a focus on the more abrasive styles of music(read:metal/punk/hardcore), along with some interesting videos and links that generally fall in the WTF category. We post full bootleg concerts every Wednesday and have new mp3s on the weekdays. Click here to goto the main page.
Here’s a random group who I can almost say are truly unique. Almost because if you replace the 8 bit keys with guitars and the white noise with drums, you would have your basic screamo. God I hate the word screamo.
I almost feel embarassed for them, but whatever, get down with your bad self.
I don’t know how to take this. Apparently they are a huge influence on metal and punk and crust, but it’s pretty lo-fi. Sometimes they sound like bleach outtakes except he doesn’t really sound like Kurt.
What is up with the recent emergence of the style of dubstep? I have to admit this track is pretty cool but I’m posting it for the dancing, off the hook.
David Cross has had a few acting gigs that seem to be strictly for paying the bills. Small Soldiers, Men in Black and most recently Alvin and the Chipmunks. He even acted in an AOL commercial which was kinda weird. What do you think?
Hey folks, sorry about all the silence, hopefully I’ll have more crap up for you die hards. I swear I’m not lazy, well not that lazy.
Anyways, here is the first track without watermarking from the new Man Man album entitled “Rabbit Habits”. I have to say, this is DAMN GOOD. I really like the direction they are heading.
There are very few bands out there that have had the type of impact on me as MLIW. They have helped me through some of the hard times and have been blasted loudly during the good.
A sound that is abrasive and beautiful at the same time, MLIW is to me the perfect hardcore band. Not too fast, not too slow, angry and sad while offering hope and triumph.
Official Statement:
Modern Life Is War will be doing one final tour from March 29th to April 26th. Our last show ever will be April 26th in Marshalltown, Iowa. There is no disaster or dramatic situation behind the break-up. All past and current members of the band are still good friends and there is no bad blood. We just feel like it’s the right time and would rather end things on our own terms than let our band become a ghost of what it was in the beginning or to be ripped apart by outside forces.
Our first show was on April 20th, 2002 in Tyler’s parents basement. This makes our run as a band almost exactly six years. We want to send a huge thank you out to everyone who supported this band through thick and thin because you care about us as individuals, our music, our message or what we stand for as a band. We also want to thank all the people in the DIY/underground hardcore and punk scenes all over the country and world who work really hard and sacrifice a lot for little to no recognition or money because they love the music and message. I am really proud of all that we have accomplished but know that without the support of that community we would have never had a chance to tour and put out records for so many years. I don’t want to get sentimental and there is no short way of wrapping up all my feelings about this band and these last six years. Above all…I hope we have made some people feel less alone and motivated them to think for themselves, be themselves and take action. Punk rock changed our lives. I hope we contributed something to keep the whole thing going. We are leaving soon…but The future is unwritten…so start writing it. Tour dates will be posted soon. Come sweat and scream and say goodbye to Modern life Is War.
Sincerely, Modern Life Is War
Modern Life Is War will be sorely missed by anyone who knew their music and everyone else has missed out. I guess they said it best:
and if you want to have it all, you have to let it all go
So here is a few mp3s to show you just what they were capable of…
But seriously guys, I have to take a moment to apologize to my 20 or so subscribers and many regular readers. I am having a small crisis presently as my 500gig external hard drive is making funny noises and isn’t being properly recognized by “the doze”(that’s windows for all you non-nerds). I’m going to try a little *nix(that’s linux for all you wannabe nerds) live distro and if that doesn’t fix-it then I will be VERY sad. It had my entire music collection, seasons 2-3 of Lost and at least 50 VERY hard to find movies on it.
I don’t know how I ever lived without my external before it broke. So, bear with me for a few days as I try to live with the 2 gigs on my ipod and figure out how to fix this situation.
Today is Valentines Day and I am dedicating this post to my wonderful girlfriend Alex.
Think of this as a playlist to play while eating dinner that you cooked for your loved one. Or while preparing it. Or while getting ready to go out. Perhaps you might want to make a mix cd for the car.
I’ve sort of started with songs that I associate with my girlfriend and it moves into songs that more deal with the topic of love more than the singer professing love for his/her mate and finally ending with some naughty and anti love songs.
I always wanted to be in a band, have a girl that I was interested in come to my show after I invite her to come watch and then dedicate this song to her and have her say that she wants to be my girlfriend. Sadly, that never happened.
These songs are posted for evaluation purposes only. We, the contributors, love and support well-made music and make every effort to support the artists we love by purchasing their work (it is our policy only to post what we own). Through this site, we're simply trying to share good music with others who will also hopefully continue to support these artists. We encourage everyone to purchase music and concert tickets for the artists you feel merit your hard earned dollars (if you listen to something again and again... why not?). Also, if you own the copyright to one of these songs and would like a song removed, please let us know. We do not keep an archive of our songs.
Feel free to contact us if you are a band, label or distributor and think we'd be interested in your music. Same goes if you're playing a gig in Portland Or, and the Willamete Valley and want us to come.
